Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Cizorah. Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website. Cizorah is built with a privacy-first, anonymous-first approach — we collect the absolute minimum data needed to provide our service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect minimal information to keep the platform functional while preserving your anonymity:
- Display Name: A username you choose during profile setup. This can be any name or alias — it does not need to be your real name.
- State & District: Your selected state and district to show you relevant local reports and community safety alerts.
- Location Data (Only During Report Submission):When you submit a report, the app requests your device's location permission to automatically tag the report with the incident location. Location is fetched only at the time of report submission and is not tracked continuously or in the background.
- Report Content: Text descriptions and images you submit in reports. These are stored securely on Firebase servers.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
Cizorah does not collect any of the following:
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
- Real names or government IDs
- Contacts, call logs, or SMS
- Browsing history
- Background location or continuous tracking
- Any other personally identifiable information (PII)
4. Anonymous Authentication
Cizorah uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication. This means you are assigned a random, anonymous user ID when you first open the app. No phone number, email, or social login is required. Your identity remains completely anonymous — we cannot identify your real-world identity.
5. How We Use Your Information
- To display reports relevant to your state and district
- To process and categorize reports using AI
- To provide community safety alerts in your area
- To match missing person reports with sightings
- To power the community leaderboard and points system
- To improve our AI and platform services
- To prevent spam and fake reports
6. Location Permission
The app requests location access only when you submit a report. This is used to automatically tag the report with the location where the incident occurred, ensuring accurate regional categorization. You can deny the permission, but the report location will need to be entered manually. Location data is never collected in the background and is only accessed with explicit user action.
7. App Permissions
We request the following permissions on your device:
- Location (Approximate/Precise): Used only when submitting a report to tag the incident location. Not accessed in the background.
- Storage/Media: Used to allow you to upload images as part of your reports. We only access files you explicitly select.
We do not access any of these permissions in the background or without explicit user action.
8. Data Retention
We retain report data and associated information only as long as necessary to provide the service and improve the platform. Users may request deletion of their data at any time by contacting us or using the in-app account deletion option.
9. Legal Basis for Processing
We process data based on user consent (e.g., granting location permission) and legitimate interest (platform functionality, community safety, and fraud prevention).
10. Data Storage & Security
All data is stored on secure Google Firebase servers (Firestore for data, Firebase Storage for images). We implement industry-standard security measures including data encryption at rest and in transit, and Firebase Security Rules to control data access.
11. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google): For anonymous authentication, data storage (Firestore), and media storage (Firebase Storage).
- AI Services: Reports may be processed using AI systems to categorize issues and detect inappropriate content. This processing is automated and does not involve human profiling.
These services have their own privacy policies and security measures.
12. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your information to third parties. Reports submitted by users may be publicly visible within the app, including associated location and content, as part of the platform's core functionality. Aggregated, anonymous statistical data may be shared for research and public safety purposes.
13. Your Rights
- Right to use the app without providing any personal information
- Right to delete your account and associated data
- Right to deny location permission
- Right to choose any display name (no real name required)
14. Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 years of age.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
